San Marcos, Texas is a beautiful city positioned in the Greater Austin Metropolitan Area. It is located in and serves as the county seat of Hays County but its borders extend into Caldwell and Guadalupe counties. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 60,650 people living in San Marcos at the time of the 2015 census. In 2015, San Marcos was the 60th largest city in Texas.

Original inhabitants of the site where San Marcos is located were Native Americans. These individuals were attracted to the area because of the San Marcos River which supplied them plenty of water. Thomas McGehee was the first Anglo-American to settle in the vicinity of the San Marcos Springs. He arrived in 1846. However, William Moon is identified as the original Anglo-American resident of the site where San Marcos now sits. In 1848, the Texas Legislature formed Hays County and designated the community of San Marcos as the county seat. As a result, more individuals moved into the community to build homes and establish businesses. In the 1960s, the Aquarena Spring and Wonder Cave emerged as important attractions. These helped establish a tourist industry that became a reliable and growing source of income. Today, San Marcos is home to many more attractions and Texas State University. Historic and newly constructed neighborhoods occupy the city along with businesses and city parks. The city continues to grow in its population size and is one of the most desirable cities to live in within the Austin Metropolitan Area.

It is important for individuals living in San Marcos to have heating and cooling systems installed in their homes. The city is located in a climate that experiences very warm summers. Daytime temperatures can climb to the 100s during the summer season. Throughout the winter months, temperatures often remain in the 60s but will dip below freezing at night.
